50 years ago: Governor’s Christmas message; manager arrested; peaceful demonstration
The front page of the 22 Dec. 1975 Caymanian Compass showed the governor’s Christmas message. In addition to extending greetings to all Caymanians at home and abroad, he said, “There have been easier years than 1975 for many but our community still has much to be thankful for. As we usher in 1976, we stand on surer ground than many other countries … and we can face the future with the optimism born of past endeavour and experience.” He ended by wishing all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
