Tsunami exercise will bring emergency notification alert on Thursday
People who are signed up for government’s national emergency notification system can expect a loud alert on their mobile phone at around 10am on Thursday, 19 March.
Messages will also go out to people who have signed up for SMS text and email alerts on the emergency notification system.
The test is part of the regional Caribe Wave tsunami exercise that occurs each year in March.
Tiffany Yong, community engagement officer with Hazard Management Cayman Islands, explained that this year’s scenario involves a tsunami generated by a 7.6 magnitude earthquake, occurring southwest of the Cayman Islands on the Swan Islands transform fault line.
