There’s no business like shoe business
Husband-and-wife teachers Ishmael and Karen Goddard took the path less well-travelled when they walked out of the classroom and opened a shoe shop.
Now the couple are celebrating their 50th year running the No. 1 Shoe Shop, based in a spacious 14,400-square-foot store in Hospital Plaza in George Town.
Karen, 77, said the secret of the company’s success was that “we’ve always tried to provide people with excellent service and tried to sell a cross-section of items so everybody can shop.
