Tropical cyclone to impact US Gulf Coast

A developing tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico is being closely monitored as forecasters warn it is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Bertha, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds and the threat of flooding to parts of the northern Gulf Coast this week.

According to the US National Hurricane Center, the system was located in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico on Monday and is forecast to move slowly westward along the northern Gulf Coast, where it is expected to strengthen before making landfall later this week. The exact track remains uncertain and even relatively small shifts could significantly change where the heaviest rain and strongest winds occur.
