New visa limits students’ stay in the US

Hundreds of Caymanian students studying in the United States are facing tighter immigration rules after the Trump administration announced sweeping changes that will place fixed time limits on student visas and shorten the period graduates have to remain in the country after completing their studies.

The new regulations will replace the longstanding system that allows foreign students on F-1 visas and J-1 exchange visas to remain in the US under a previous “duration of status” clause, meaning they could remain in the US for the duration of their academic programme.
